SharePoint Configuration Wizard Error: This SQL Server instance does not have the required “max degree of parallelism” setting of 1
Error Message:
You try to run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard for SharePoint 2013 and you may get this on the first step of the wizard configuration.
An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown… This SQL Server instance does not have the required “max degree of parallelism” setting of 1. Database provisioning operations will continue to fail if “max degree of parallelism” is not set to 1 or the current account does not have permissions to change the setting.
Cause
This happens if the account you’re specified / or logged in as does not have enough access to change the settings on its own. You have to manually change it per below.
Solution
- Open SQL Server Management Studio
- IN the explorer area right click on the instance you need
- Select Properties
- On the Left Select Advanced
- For the Value "Max Degree of Parallelism" set it from 0 to 1 (basically turning it on)
- Delete any config databases that got created before the failure. Usually SharePoint_Config database.
